Dear parents/carers

Welcome back to a new term in Foundation Stage. We hope you have had a wonderful festive break and are looking forward to a busy and exciting Spring Term at school.

This half term the children will be learning about ‘Traditional stories’. We will be using the children’s ideas to inform our planning. If you feel you would be able to support the children with their learning in any way please let us know.

The children are making good progress and have learned lots of new sounds. They are gaining in confidence and are starting to blend the sounds together to make words. They are also beginning to listen to the sounds that they can hear in words and use them to spell simple words. Thank you for your support at home. Please could you continue to read and practise sounds at home, as the children greatly benefit from it.

Reading books

As your child becomes more fluent with reading you may need to change your child’s book more frequently. There is a red container on the side each morning to put your child’s reading book and record book in when it needs changing. Please could you ensure that your child’s yellow reading record book is with their reading book in their book bag at all times?

Morning bread donation

Thank you for the bread and butter donations we received last term. We would like to request a single contribution of £1.00 per child this term to cover costs.

Your child will need a PE kit in school at all times. It should consist of a pair of trainers, a pair of socks, a red T shirt, black shorts, a jumper and jogging trousers or similar for outdoor PE.

Wish list

In Foundation we are always hunting for new and exciting resources to engage the children in their learning through play.  If you think you may have any interesting things that we could add to our collection we would be very grateful for any donations! Here is a list of a few of the things we are currently trying to get our hands on.....

Large paving slabs, odds and ends of wallpaper, discs of wood, planks of wood, tarpaulin, buttons and beads, small world toys (farm sets, people, animals, dinosaurs), construction sets ( knex, lego magnetex) cars, gardening tools, children’s wheelbarrows, dolls push chairs......

Outdoor Learning

We are also planning to develop and revamp our outdoor learning environment. We always welcome parent help with these projects. So if you have any skills e.g gardening, building, painting and would like to volunteer we would be extremely grateful for your help and support.

Diary Dates

  • Book bags must be brought to school each day. Please check your child’s book bag each day as this is where we will put any letters or important information.
  • Please name all clothing and items.
  • Children should not bring toys to school.
  • Please could you let someone know if someone different is picking up your child at the end of the school day?
  • Please ensure that your child has a named pair of wellies in school each day

Please feel free to approach us at any time if you have any concerns or things you wish to discuss.

Yours sincerely
