We have spent the last few weeks reading and writing about E.B White’s classic book, Charlotte’s Web.
The book itself has been our class read aloud text and we have used it to re-write the ‘Escape’ chapter with our own twists!
First we used footnotes (comic strip type drawings) to plan each part of the chapter. After that, we turned these drawings into written notes on a story mountain. Finally, we wrote our own version of the chapter on special Charlotte’s Web writing frames.
The children were thoroughly engaged throughout the unit and put a huge amount of effort into their writing. As a reward, we watched the movie inspired by the book and discussed the similarities and differences between the two versions.
Here are two photographs of the spectacular displays that Mrs Butterfield has created to showcase some of the Charlotte’s Web work produced by the children in year 3.
