Welcome back! As you will see from the topic web overleaf, our topic this half term is ‘Dinosaurs’. We will be exploring non-fiction and writing fact sheets to share the knowledge they discover about dinosaurs. We will also be sharing dinosaur poems and the life of Mary Anning, who was famous for her marine Jurassic findings and her passion for palaeontology during the early 1800’s.
We have set out some further information below:
As for last half term, your child’s most important homework is to read to an adult at home every day.
As a class our mental maths targets are:
- Being able to write numbers to 100 accurately.
- Counting forwards and backwards to 100.
- Understanding place value in 10s and 1s.
- Being able to count forward and back in 5s and 10s from 0. Count in 2s from a given number to 20.
- Being able to measure, using a consistent like a ‘cube’ and finding the difference between different lengths.
Please help your child to achieve these targets by using spare moments such as car journeys, meal times and when you’re exploring pictures in stories etc. to count with your child.
We will be carrying on with the children having bread and butter as a snack during the morning. We are still finding it really successful and this gives the children the energy boost they need to focus on their learning during the morning. We would like to maintain our request for a contribution of £1.00 per child to help cover costs. Please give this to Ms Jenkins in the office.
The attached curriculum overview provides information as to what we will be learning and how it is linked to our topic. In addition to this, our RE this term will be exploring Judaism and the role of Moses in the exodus from Egypt. During ICT, we will discuss internet safety and have a go at programming, creating and adapting our work. If you wish to discuss internet safety further or explore the subject more the following website is really useful: www.thinkuknow.co.uk
In design and technology our focus will be on pop up and lever mechanisms.
This term we are very excited to be having a specialist come in to school to teach Zumba to the children. This will be on a Thursday morning, so the children will need their PE kit on this day also.
PE will continue to be on Tuesday afternoons with Mr Bain. Please ensure that your child has their PE kit on this day as many children take it home on a Monday after sports club and forget to bring it back in. They should also have trainers and if they wear tights for school they need a spare pair of socks for PE.
