Year 6 Home Learning Page
Due to the enforced school closure, we will be sending home some work that your child could do that is based on the work originally planned for next week. If the school is still closed after the Easter holidays, English, maths, topic work and other activities will be posted on the Year 6 Home Learning section of the school website.
As you may be aware, the government have cancelled all examinations including Year 6 SATs. It is unlikely that your child will sit these assessments this academic year. In light of this, we will still be covering the year 6 curriculum but no longer practising SATs papers and there is no need for your children to do this at home either. Please be aware that information about your child’s attainment will be communicated with their secondary schools through my teacher assessment.
Please do not hesitate to email me with any queries or concerns you have about any of the work or the welfare of your child throughout the enforced period of closure. My email address is .
The learning packs that have been sent home/are availible in school contain:
Area of a triangle. I have attached a worksheet with answers and a method for working out the area.
Conversions of measurements. They have learnt about measurement conversions in years 4 and 5 but this is something that needs revisited in year 6.
Properties of 3D shapes – identifying the faces, edges and vertices of 3D shapes.
Multiplication/division facts are important to keep practising.
Nouns with suffixes – an explanation is at the top of the worksheet
Diary writing – I would like your child to write a diary of what they have been up to each day. Please could this include their feelings and emotions? I have explained to the class that they need to include as many of the year 6 writing non-negotiables as possible. They do know about this.
Reading – It is really important that you child keeps up their reading. If they have gone home with a school reading book, please can they return it when they come back to school? Unfortunately, they won’t be able to quiz on them from home.
Spellings – Your child will bring home their RWI spelling book to practise the spellings already taught.
Our topic is the geography of South America. Please can your child make a poster about either the Amazon Rainforest or the Amazon River? They know how to make a poster as we have done this many times.
Other activities in the pack include: practical learning ideas, the year 5/6 spelling list, how to access ToodleBit and a menu of practical activities.
Twinkl website is providing free access for parents during the current outbreak of COVID 19. It has a vast array of resources, all of which are based on the English National Curriculum. If you put your child’s year group and a subject area into the search, the resources will be of the appropriate level.
Thank you for your support,
