Summer 2, Letter to Parents

Dear parents, carers and children,

It seems like so long since I’ve seen you all in person – I miss you all a lot! Obviously, at this point, we don’t know when Year 3 will be back at school. I hope you’re all staying busy and getting lots of exercise and school work done! On this page, you will find our menu of activities for this half term. Our topic question is “How does art affect us?” and our focus was due to be the Cornish Art. Due to the current situation, however, I have decided to open the topic up to the study of Cornwall as a whole! As I hope you will see from the menu, this project gives a lot of opportunities for interesting research and creative activities. The activities are organised into subject areas and, where appropriate, I have tried to include web links to provide information, activities and, I hope, inspiration. As always, if you would like any support or guidance with the menu, whatever that may be, please don't hesitate in dropping me an email at jamie@stoke-climsland.cornwall.sch.uk and I will do my best to help you out. Once again, please forward any topic-related photographs that you think I'd be interested to see, and I'll add them to the school website.

Stay safe and I hope to see you all very soon!

Jamie Burchell

Week 4 Update (4/5/20)

Hi Year 3!

It was amazing to see and hear you all on our Zoom call last week. It looks like you are all doing well and keeping yourselves (and your parents!) busy. Please don’t forget – feel free to email me something if you like, or if you have a question or even if you’re just stuck for something to do! My email address is jamie@stoke-climsland.cornwall.sch.uk

Here are some more ideas for your learning:

English: When I was younger, I loved The Worst Witch books. Take a look at this awesome reading lesson on BBC Bitesize. It’s got some really cool videos with TV’s Rachel Riley reading some extracts from the book and fun tasks to try. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zjk9kmn

Maths: Try some of these awesome mixed operation challenges on BBC Bitesize! https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zd3q2sg

Also, don’t forget the awesome ‘Problem of the day’ on the website!

Geography: How much do you know about two of the world’s mightiest rivers? Try these interactive quizzes:

The Nile: https://www.ducksters.com/history/ancient_egypt/geography_nile_river_questions.php

The Amazon: https://www.funtrivia.com/playquiz/quiz34929727fca00.html

How did you do?

PE: Can you design and create a 15-20 minute workout in your own home? Are there things around the house could help you make your workout more engaging and challenging? Email your workout videos to me at jamie@stoke-climsland.cornwall.sch.uk and I may use parts of them in a future ‘Mr Burchell Workout’ on Facebook (Stokie Network)

I hope you’re all staying safe and behaving yourselves at home. I miss you all very much and hope to see you at school very soon.

Take care of each other,

Mr Burchell

Week 3 Update (27/4/20)

Hi Year 3!

Hope you are all keeping well still. Here are a few more ideas to keep those imaginations humming. Please don’t forget – feel free to email me something if you like, or if you have a question or even if you’re just stuck for something to do! My email address is jamie@stoke-climsland.cornwall.sch.uk

Anyway, here are some more ideas for your learning:

On Monday 20th April, BBC Bitesize are starting daily session on a variety of subjects and might be well worth a look.

English: One of the areas that I wanted us to work on this half term were pronouns. Bitesize has a great resource on this. Check out the following link for explanation videos and suggested activities: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zhp3bdm

Maths: I hope you’re all having a go at telling the time? Follow this link for some fun, interactive games that will help you: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/Search.aspx?q=telling+time

Also, don’t forget the awesome ‘Problem of the day’ on the website!

Science: Linked with our light topic in science, why not make a periscope to show reflection? This YouTube video shows you how to make one with a cereal box and things you can find around your house. If you don’t have any small mirrors, why not use a couple of old DVDs that you don’t need anymore? (check with your adults, please!)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmbfatY76zA

Missing you all – look forward to catching up with you on the Zoom call on Monday afternoon at 1.30pm. Remember to keep emailing pictures of what you’ve been getting up to - I love seeing them. Take care.

Mr Burchell

Summer Term Home Learning Menu

Dear parents, carers and children,

I hope you are all well and have had an enjoyable, if not strange, Easter holiday. Even though we are all at home, it has been clear that, from the photos emailed to me recently, you have all been busy filling your days with fun-looking activities from gardening to baking. Please continue to send me these pictures as I do enjoy seeing them, but it will also give us an opportunity to share them with each other once we are back in the classroom. On this page, you will find our menu of activities for this half term. Our topic question is “What Makes Cornwall Special?” and our focus was due to be the River Tamar. Due to the current situation, however, I have decided to open the topic up to the study of all rivers. Once again, please forward any topic-related photographs that you think I'd be interested to see, and I'll add it to my 'home learning' file.

Stay safe and enjoy all of the extra time that you have together, especially when the sun is shining!

Jamie Burchell (Mr Burchell to you children!)??
